The Island of Korcula is one of the islands in Central Dalmatia, the southern region of Croatia located along Adriatic Coast. Korcula is also located somewhere in the middle between cities of Split and Dubrovnik. Island has a very long and dramatic shoreline. Due to it’s geographical position, Korcula was very early populated.
Korcula island shares its climate as well as a weather with the rest of Croatian cost. It has a very mild Mediterranean climate. Its characteristics are long and hot summers, usually dry with minimum rainfall and mild winters.
Korcula Isand is well connected with neighbourhood islands and mainland by car ferries as well as by foot passenger ferries. There is at least one daily bus that connects the island with Dubrovnik, Split, Zadar, Plitvice Lakes and Zagreb. In the high season buses to Dubrovnik are much frequent, usually three times a day.
There are eight main places-villages on the Island of Korcula. Korcula town is the main town on the Island. With its lovely architecture, numerous buildings and monuments, cafes, restaurants, galleries, cinema etc., Korcula is very popular for visitors as the central location. Other places are Lumbarda, Zrnovo, Smokvica, Blato, Vela Luka and other.
Korcula has a lot of small and secluded beaches all over the island, but the most popular ones are sandy beach Vela Przina and pebble beach Pupnatska Luka. Korcula beaches are recognised as being some of the best in Croatia. There is also selection of day trips and excursions available, such as sightseeing tour of Korcula Old Town, Mljet National Par Excursion, Sea Safari and many other. You can also get involved in the wide range of sport activities, such as cycling, fishing, sailing, windsurfing, scuba diving, sea kayaking etc.
Korcula island also has numerous smaller and larger restaurants dotted around Korcula Old Town as well as around villages and bays all over the Island.
